Shop Smart: Organic on a Budget

These guidelines for eating healthy and cheaply are pretty basic, but sometimes basic is best. Especially on a Monday. So to recap:
1. Buy in season
2. Think organic if the skin is thin (pesticides penetrate thinner skinned fruits and vegetables more easily)
and 3.  It might sound extreme, but to really take care of your body, consider grass fed meats and dairy. The extra cash for the carton of milk now might save the bill for the heart surgery later on.

You only get one body: feed it well.

Happy Monday everyone!

Just Chicken

It shouldn't be funny that a bear got in and ate the chickens. And its not, its tragic really... but tragic in the way that makes you chuckle and toast the computer screen with your coffee, because that exasperated farmer could easily be you.

This looks like an awesome website too, so expect more, I imagine. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!

Cheap and Healthy

I'd like to focus on foods, or rather ingredients, that are good, good for you, and good for the wallet. This list from WebMD seemed like a place to start, though I would take egg substitute off the list and spring for farm fresh, just because.

Eating Organic on a Budget

One thing that’s been on my mind a lot lately, unsurprisingly, is food. Namely, my grocery bill. (Yes, we farmers are human and still have to worship in the checkout line by aisle 8.) But eating healthy, namely organic, is costly. I’m not a fan of Dr. Oz but this video makes a lot of sense. Picking and choosing your organic purchases helps the bill, and also goes toward furthering your food education.

Steak and Eggs

This isn't something I'd usually post, but any excuse to eat steak and eggs.

Cage-Free

What The Rise Of Cage-Free Eggs Means For Chickens

The jury, or rather Michigan State University researchers, is still out on this one, but definitely an interesting move for the industry. Again, the persistent question, is it a better product and agricultural method or is merely our perception of it better? Remains to be seen.
